Giovelli is an Aarakocra (birdman) from the secret village of the Silvaraak Tribe. He was orphaned at a young age and the aged village songsmith named Aaghaa took him under his wing. (haha) Aaghaa sent Giovelli on missions of stealth and theft but still insisted it was imperative for Giovelli to master his art of song.

In the village it was common practice for the shamen of the village to perform an ancient ritual to richen the village crops. It was a closely guarded ritual obtained many centuries ago. One night an assassin infiltrated the village and murdered the Shamen and destroyed all of their ritual books. When the village council learned of the indecent they were furious and launched an investigation. It wasn't long however until Aaghaa pointed the finger of blame squarely on Giovelli, he was found guilty and the investigation was ended. As punishment for his crime his wings were doused in acid, tied to a horse then he was dragged through the desert. It was not long before Giovelli fell unconscious, knowing that he would die.

When he woke his bonds were cut and he found his few belongings nearby with a supply of rations. He also found an ancient copy of the secret ritual with modifications written in Aaghaa's writing that allowed it to be performed with the bardic arts. He knew he had to use the ritual to help people but he had lost his way. His wounds became infected and his rations were soon depleted. Giovelli had been walking in circles for hours when he fell to the sand, he was delirious from exhaustion, dehydration and infection. The last thing he saw was the carapace of some creature looming over him.

When he awoke his wounds were bandaged. His vision was blurred when he turned his head and saw his own reflection in a small jug of water. Giovelli ignored the pain of his limbs and poured the whole jug down his throat. It was only then that he noticed he was in a cave with a Thri-Kreen. The creature approached and placed another blanket over Giovelli as the night grew colder.

It was nearly two weeks before Giovelli could move without opening his wounds again. In that time the Thri-Kreen shared his story with Giovelli. He had been part of a clutch to which he was extremely loyal. He was a warrior and prided himself on defending those weaker than himself. One night they were ambushed by fearsome creatures. He saw his clutch losing the battle and in a desperate attempt to help his clutchmates accidentally unleashed a blast of psychic power - something he didn't know he was capable of. The creatures seemed to be susceptible to the attack and fell dead but many of his clutchmates were gravely injured. The clutch decided it was too dangerous to have him around and banished him from their midst. He still does not know if any of his comrades died from their wounds. He has been wandering the desert alone since then.

After Giovelli's wounds had fully recovered he and the Thri-Kreen became a pair of wandering peddlers who also offered their services as mediators, and protectors.
