[edit] Where did I come from?
All children seek structure. A pattern to follow. A role to play. Bartholomew Urs has always been a doctor, long before he went to school. Conscientious, Polite and Hard Working even as a boy his ambition and accomplishments were a surprise to no one. But there's more to being a success in the world than connections, money, discipline or talent and this man has it.
Bartholomew Urs is Very Handsome.
[edit] What shaped me?
Tragedy strikes as our handsome-rich-doctor is the victim of circumstance: becoming infected/cursed as a werecreature. When Irritated or Angry or by the light of the full moon or When using powered whitener instead of cream in his coffee: He Turns Into A Bear!
And so he screams to the night sky in anguish: "I'm a Monster!!"
[edit] Recruited
Our twisted hero builds a laboratory in sinister High Park where he conducts terrible experiments on his fellow werecreatures. Desperation and despair are turning Urs into a mad-man when Wizard and Csis agent Chuck Daniels intrudes. Investigating the missing manimals, Daniels kicks in the Doctor's door and puts the business to an end. Daniels offers Doctor Urs a chance to work for the benefit of others and redeem himself - clearly an idealist to the core, wizard or no.
The reformed doctor 'Fights For Good' from then on.
[edit] Crossed paths
The Doctor meets Nikolai Aleksandrovich who is down on his luck and far from home. Up to his eyeballs in Faerie business, Nikolai still takes the time to share his knowledge with Urs and encourage him to break the cycle of self pity. Seizing on the idea that he can free himself, the Doctor makes an honest to goodness vow:
"I will find a Cure."
[edit] Another path crossed
Paul Warren flees vampire pursuit and lands in the Doctor's lap. Paul claims amnesia and Urs accompanies him into the seedy intrigues of the city to keep him alive. Afflicted with his own hideous transformations, Paul gains the Doctor's sympathy. Enough bullets do overcome Paul's regeneration capacity near the end, prompting the traditional cry of
"Medic!"
